skills,
outdoor activities, community service, and friendship building.
The troop
draws most of its members from the
greater Greenhorn Valley including
Colorado City and Rye areas in southern Colorado.
Our sponsor is the Valley Community Church. Scouts attend a
variety of schools and churches in the area. The goal of Troop
59 is to make the learning of scout skills fun and use these as
stepping-stones in the development of responsibility, character
and leadership skills.
We meet
each Thursday evening at 7:00 pm.
Anyone interested in Scouting is welcome.
AIMS OF SCOUTING
The Boy Scout program works toward three aims. One is growth in
moral strength and character. We define this as what the boy is
himself: his personal qualities, his values, and his outlook.
A second aim is participation citizenship. Used broadly,
citizenship means the boys relationship to others. He comes to
learn of his obligations to other people, to the society in
which he lives, and to the government that presides over that
society.
A third aim of the Boy Scout program is development of
physical, mental, and emotional fitness. Fitness includes the
body (well tuned and healthy), the mind (able to think and solve
problems), and the emotions (self-control, courage, and
self-respect)
